Lewis Binford (1930-2011) - processual archaeology and historical archaeology
Lewis Binford, the founder of processual archaeology, died on April 11th. His interest was mainly on the palaeolithic, but he was also crucial to historical archaeology. Besides ethnoarchaeology and experimental archaeology his groundbreaking article "archaeology as anthropology" stressed the importance of historical archaeology as a basis for archaeological interpretations. He was in charge for several theses dealing with historical archaeology especially in the 1960ies and 70ies.
